Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD)

The Honourable Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn is the Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak and the Assemblyman for N.20 Tarat, a position he has held since 1996. Born in Kampung Quop, Kuching, Sarawak, he has a distinguished career spanning 38 years, with expertise in law and policy analysis. Dato Sri Roland Sagah holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from the University of London and is a Barrister-at-Law of Gray’s Inn, London. He is also an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak. He further holds a Master of Policy Sciences from Curtin University, Perth, and a Master of Advanced Business Practice from the University of South Australia. In 2001, he was awarded the Institute of Public Administration Australia Prize for Best Student in Policy Science by Curtin University of Technology.

Throughout his public service career, Dato Sri Roland Sagah has held several key positions in the Sarawak Government. These include Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Deputy Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Assistant Minister for Public Utilities (Water Supply), and Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development (Native Land Development). He has served as Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development since January 2022. In recognition of his contributions to public service, he was conferred the Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (PNBS) with the title “Dato Sri” in 2023. He was previously awarded the Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGBK) with the title “Datuk” in 2011, as well as the Johan Bintang Kenyalang (JBK) and Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (PBS). Dato Sri Roland Sagah also contributes to the development of Sarawak through his involvement in various boards and organisations, particularly in education, research, innovation, technology, land development and economic development.

The official opening of Startup Village by YB Dato Sri Roland Sagah will set the strategic direction for the two-day platform, bringing into focus Sarawak’s commitment to advancing innovation, entrepreneurship and talent development as key drivers of the State’s digital and economic transformation. In his capacity as Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, YB Dato Sri Roland Sagah’s presence will provide an opportunity to reinforce the State’s broader mandate to cultivate the talent, capabilities and enabling environment required for innovation to thrive, from developing and retaining technology talent, strengthening entrepreneurial capabilities and improving access to capital, to creating pathways for startups and emerging ventures to access wider markets.
