From The Lab to a Billion Users: What Translation Taught Me about Responsible AI Commercialisation
COE
De Kai built the world’s first global-scale online language translator, the research that seeded Google Translate, Yahoo Translate and Microsoft Bing Translator, taking a university lab project to a billion users. In this keynote, he draws on that journey to talk through what responsible AI commercialisation actually looks like in practice: the tradeoffs, the guardrails, and the lessons research institutions need before their own work scales.
