Peter Anderson

Senior Property Advisor
Development Consultant
Peter Anderson is an accomplished housing, property development and urban renewal executive with more than two decades’ experience delivering complex city-shaping programs across government and the private sector. Peter has led or shaped the master planning of some of Australia’s largest and most complex urban renewal and city-building projects and major national housing programs delivering thousands of new homes. His career has focused on creating sustainable, inclusive and well-connected communities through strategic planning, affordable housing delivery, infrastructure coordination, public-private partnerships and strong governance. As Executive Director of Bradfield City Centre within the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, Peter directed multidisciplinary teams planning 115 hectares of government-owned land for Sydney’s emerging third CBD. This included a mixed-use smart city centre designed to support 20,000 jobs and 10,000 high-density dwellings in a parkland setting, integrating master planning, placemaking, sustainability, infrastructure coordination and investment attraction. Peter’s expertise spans transit-oriented development, brownfield renewal, land acquisition, feasibility analysis, stakeholder engagement, approvals pathways and partnership models that bring government, private sector and community objectives together. For a smart cities audience, he brings practical insight into how housing, infrastructure, governance, technology and sustainability can be aligned to create resilient, inclusive and commercially viable urban places. His perspective is grounded in implementation: translating policy ambition into approved, funded and deliverable projects that create long-term value.

Scaling Smart Cities
Future Cities
Balancing hardware, software and heartware is one thing in a single showcase district or pilot precinct. Scaling that balance across an entire city, let alone an industrial corridor or regional growth zone, is another challenge entirely. Smart city concepts across the region frequently launch as successful localized wins: a digital command centre here, a smart transit hub there. The harder task is replicating, integrating and expanding those wins city-wide, without losing the human-centred design that made them work in the first place. This session explores how to bridge the gap between high-level urban strategy and ground-level execution at scale. Bringing together national smart city strategists, municipal government leaders and master infrastructure developers, the panel tackles the structural, financial and technological realities of scaling up. How do local councils modernize legacy civic infrastructure without disrupting services? How do private developers integrate smart grids, mobility and sustainable design into mega-builds while keeping citizens, not just systems, at the centre? And how do national policy frameworks align public and private capital so heartware isn’t the first thing sacrificed when a pilot goes citywide?
