Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak
Dr. Sim Kwan Hua is an academic and educator at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Malaysia, with more than two decades of experience in higher education. He currently serves as the Deputy Head of School for the School of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and has been leading the Computer Science program since 2013. In these roles, he contributes to academic leadership, curriculum development, quality enhancement, student experience, and engagement with industry and professional communities.
Dr. Sim’s academic and professional interests span computer science, software development, data mining, artificial intelligence, time-series analysis, and emerging digital technologies. He is particularly interested in connecting theoretical knowledge with practical applications and industry-relevant projects.
His research focuses primarily on time-series analysis and pattern recognition, with particular interest in the scalable recognition and analysis of variable-length patterns in financial and other sequential data. His work explores computational approaches for identifying meaningful patterns efficiently within large and complex time-series datasets, addressing challenges associated with varying pattern lengths, data scale, and computational complexity. These research interests have applications across domains where large volumes of sequential data need to be analysed effectively and accurately.
Through his work in education, research, and engagement with industry, he continues to strive towards developing people and technologies that can make a meaningful contribution to a better world.
