Tariq Zaman is Professor at the School of Computing and Creative Media and Head of the Advanced Centre for Sustainable Socio-Economic and Technological Development (ASSET) at University of Technology Sarawak. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and brings over 26 years of experience across Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Germany, Namibia and Canada. His work sits deliberately at the meeting point of deep disciplinary expertise. Anchored in information systems and human-computer interaction, he has published with anthropologists, energy economists, climate scientists, linguists and Indigenous knowledge holders. Tariq chairs IFIP Working Group 13.8 on Interaction Design and International Development and edits the Borneo Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities. He was General Co-Chair of the 18th ACM Participatory Design Conference (PDC 2024), the first held in Asia. He is an ACM Distinguished Speaker, a COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar, and the developer of myspeed.site, a crowdsourced Internet quality-of-service platform used by Malaysian agencies and operators for benchmarking connectivity.
