Ts. Dr. Muhammad Norhelmi Ahmad is the Director of the Borneo Institute of Sustainable Food and Agroindustry (BISFA), an institute mandated by the state goverment of Sarawak to become centre of excellence in animal feed and agroindustry research and development. He also serve as Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Agrotechnology and Applied Sciences, i-CATS University College. With extensive expertise in industrial biotechnology, circular bioeconomy, and waste management He holds a PhD in Industrial Biotechnology (2022), from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. He is a certified Professional Technologist under the Malaysian Board of Technologists, an HRD Corp Accredited Trainer, and a member of the Malaysian Society of Lactic Acid Bacteria. Dr. Norhelmi’s research actively drives agricultural innovation and food security in Sarawak. He spearheads grant-funded initiatives, including community-based biomass valorization for green economies, low-cost integrated farming systems, and catalyst-mediated microbial intensification to reduce local fertilizer import dependency. His commitment to a circular bioeconomy is evident in his intellectual properties, such as “”SAFLACT,”” a probiotic-reinforced animal feed, and collaborative patents like “”GOLDGREEN COMPOST””. Beyond his academic research, he provides crucial consultancy services, leading the Projek Agromakanan Kampung Kaba for RISDA and serving as an environmental specialist for Achaia Environmental Consultancy. He is also a dedicated educator who has supervised numerous student projects on sustainable agriculture, ranging from aquaponics optimization to biochar applications for soil improvement. His impactful scientific contributions have been recognized internationally and locally. His notable accolades include the Young Investigator’s Research Award from the Asian Federation Society of Lactic Acid Bacteria (2022) and the Overall Best Presenter award at the 12th International Agriculture Conference, Bangkok (2025).
