Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan was born in Lawas, Sarawak, Malaysia on 2nd December 1955. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from National University of Malaysia. In 2017, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan was appointed as the Deputy Premier of Sarawak and currently holds two ministerial portfolios, namely Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, Sarawak. His appointment as Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment took effect on July 2004 and May 2017 respectively.
Apart from holding ministerial portfolios, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan presently the Chairman of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) board since May 2011 and Chairman of Northern Region Development Authority (NRDA) since March 2018. In addition, he also the Deputy Chairman of Sarawak Mineral Management Authority (SMMA) since 2012, Deputy Chairman of Sarawak Planning Authority (SPA) since July 2004, Deputy Chairman of Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) since October 2020 and Deputy Chairman of Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) since August 2008. In recognition of his contribution to the State of Sarawak and the country, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan had been conferred various titles and awards, namely Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN) in 1989, Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGBK) in 1998, Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (PNBS) in 2006 and Darjah Utama Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Kenyalang Sarawak “Datuk Amar Bintang Kenyalang”, (DA) in 2008. Recently, he was conferred Brunei Darussalam’s The Most Distinguished Order of Paduka Seri Laila Jasa 1st Class (PSLJ) carrying the title ‘Dato Paduka Seri Laila Jasa’ by His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam on 15th July 2023.
